Early Visual Model and Geometric Illusions : A Consideration on Laplacian-Gaussian Filter

Abstract(in English) We have proposed a method of edge-detection for line figures. In this paper, we modify it to so that it can be applicable to general pictorial images. This extension is mainly accomplished by the modification of clustering method. We apply this extended edge-detection method for the irradiation illusion that is a kind of 2-demensional geometric illusion. This visual illusion effects perception of size. By studying this illusion we may be able to estimate the mechanism how the size is measured visually. In this paper, we assume that size is measured by the number of the fired off-center cells on the retina, as in the case of lenght. Results of this paper suggest that many forms of geometric illusion are explained by mechanism of the early visual system that consists of the retina and its neighborhood region.
