Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Three experiments were conducted to reexamine the angry superiority effect in the detection of facial expression. Using eyebrowless schematic faces, the detections of happy and angry faces were compared, with stimulus orientation(Experiments 1 and 3)and stimulus size(Experiment 2)being independent variables. In Experiment 3, even the contours of schematic faces were removed. The results of Experiments 1 and 2 showed that, in some conditions, angry face was indeed detected more efficiently than happy face. However, the results of Experiment 3 suggested that the angry superiority effect was derived from the local features created by the mouth and the contour.
