Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Using a morphing technique, average faces were quantitatively transformed into feminized or child-shaped composite images. Mate and female participants (28 university students for each) rated the facial attractiveness of the composite faces and the sex difference in attractiveness evaluation was investigated. As the result, we found that the female participants rated male faces more severely than the male participants and preferred the male faces that were more strongly transformed into feminized or child-shaped composite images. In contrast, such tendencies were not found in female faces. Next, the attractiveness ratings of all participants were compared between the feminized and the child-shaped faces. In the case of female faces, we found that the child-shaped images were preferred to the feminized images, while the tuning of evaluation was more strict and narrow for the degree of feminization. As for male faces, there were no large difference in the attractiveness ratings between the child-shaped and the feminized images.
