Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Using male face photographs and name cards with various designs, the present study investigated how their impressions affected the memorability of them presented in pairs. At first, participants rated impressions about the faces and the name cards with the semantic differential method. As the result of factor analysis, three factors were found and named 'activeness', 'potency', and 'gracefulness'. Target pairs were chosen based on the combinations of their properties on the three factors. Then, another participants took part in the recognition test of target pairs presented with distracter pairs. The recognition performance was found to be finest when both of the face and the name card had high gracefulness, and worst when the the of high potency was paired with the name card of low potency. It was revealed that gracefulness largely affected the memorability of the pairs, while the contribution ratio of gracefulness was relatively small in facter analysis of rated impressions.
