Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Characteristics of visual attention are discussed from three aspects based on our research. The first one concerns eye movements and useful field of view in a realistic setting, here in actual driving. The narrowing of useful field of view with increase of demand and trade-off between depth and width of processing were found. The second one concerns attention shift in depth in an observer moving situation.Asmmetry of shift of attention in depth was more clearly found in observer moving situations than stationary situation. We call the asymmetry rubber band metaphor of visual attention. The third one concerns time course of visual attention: the before and after effect of use of car navigation on attention to forward traffic environment. The deteriorative effect was demonstrated. It should be stressed that it is more promising to conduct experiments on visual attention in behavior oriented situations.
