Abstract(in English) | In this paper we first show a new neural network model which only assumes the basic physiological mechanism: the lateral inhibition between different colors in visual pathway. This model explains the interaction between colors as "complementary-color inhibition" in the opponent color space, i.e., a color in an image is subjected to attraction or repulsion of the complementaries of its surrounding colors. Thus we are able to realize successfully the simultaneous contrast and assimilation color illusions using this neural network model. Furthermore, we propose a quantitative characterization of color appearance in polychromatic perception based on the intrinsic geometry of the color space, which is derived from the Riemannian metric tensor calculated using the above neural network model. |
