Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Adjective expressions in japanese were explored using primary school textbooks. The textbooks were parsed by the Japanese morphological analysis system"ChaSen", and adjective expressions were categorized into i-adjectives and na-adjectives.Further both types of adjective were separated into two subsets on the basis of affective evaluations(pleasant and unpleasant). These data were compared with an adjective dictionary containing 1009 words. The results showed that variation of adjectives in primary school textbooks cover 22% of an adjective dictionary, and the asymmetric pattern of pleasant and unpleasant adjectives(27% vs.56%)found in the adjective dictionary were not found in the textbooks(35% vs.40%).
