Abstract(in English) | This study investigated how various sources of information contribute to the perception of motion in depth. We compared three binocular cues-vergence, relative disparity and absolute disparity. Subjects were presented with targets moving in depth, and were asked to judge whether the object moved forward or backward. Only the addition of a stationary reference resulted in distinct perception of motion in depth. We conclude that relative disparity is the most effective cue, and absolute disparity is the second effective cue. But when subjects used vergence cue, they could not perceive distinct motion in depth. We suggeste that vergence movement information is sent to another perception mechanism, and it is not very effective for depth perception. |
