Retrieval of Similar Faces by Using Grey-Level Mosaics

Abstract(in English) There have been many researches on face recognition for person identification, however, no reports on similar face detection was found. Similarity on human faces depends on human's subjective sense, then, their answers on similar faces are not unique. This makes it very difficult to realize its computer simulation. This paper proposes a method to retrieve similar faces from a largesize face database by using their grey-level mosaics. That is, each face is represented by mosaics; after its exact location is detected from a grey-level facial image. Every mosaic pattern composed of a full face and facial parts, eyes, nose and mouth, is estimated by the nearest neighbor method. As a result, some mosaic types can yield near answer on similar face to human's subjective sense.
