Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | We have studied the view invariance of a stereoscopic surface caused by sparse binocular disparities. From various aspects, subjects viewed a vertically or horizontally oriented surface and measured its shape by interactively adjusting a small depth probe with the perceived surface. For each surface orientation, our data suggests that the perceived surface is almost invariant wiht respect to changes in viewpoint, however, the perceived depth is significantly underestimated if the depicted surface is curved about the vertical axis. Numerical simulation shows that our results are compatible with a computational model utilizing a membrane potential as the smoothing operator. |
