Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) It is difficult for blind persons to understand the relations between they and their environments as a two-dimensional map. This paper presents a way to obtain two-dimensional understanding for blind persons. First, we propose a human understanding model of environments which explains the difference about visual functions and experiences. Then we realize a prototype map representation system which consists of a tactile display, a voice synthesizer and so on. This system has two representation modes as tactile-audio map mode and virtual walking mode. As the results of evaluation at a school for the blind, we have got some useful guidelines.
