Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The present study aimed at examining Japanese recognition of Chinese facial expressions. 92 Japanese students (49 males and 43 females) were exposed to 36 short motion pictures of ad-lib performance which a female Chinese drama student acted, and they evaluated expressional intensity of happiness, surprise, fear, anger, disgust, sadness, contempt, interest, and shame. After factor analysis of the data, it was suggested that Japanese use recognitive framework similar to those they use to recognize facial expressions of Westerners, rather than those they use to recognize Japanese facial expressions.
