Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We examined the effect of translation of viewpoint on the short-term memory representation of the position of objects as an observer pointed to a remembered target from various positions of the observer in walking space after moving. Our results showed that the target position was displaced to the midsagittal plane of observer's body, independently of the direction and distance of moving, at the onset of pointing, not memorizing. Our experimental data was explained according to a model (Yoshida and Inui, 2001). We found that the observer utilized two types of information about the target position in order to point after moving and changing the position of the body on recalling. Information about the target position was encoded in both egocentric and allocentric frame of reference ; the former is centered on the observer's body after moving, and the latter is centered on the frame of tablet for the target presentation, one of the various objects surrounding the target.
