Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) By progress of video compression codings as well as video-streaming technologies over the Internet, a Web Based Training (WBT) system, using video stream transmission, has become feasible. In this paper, a model of signed language learning system has been actually built on the web, and its effectiveness of and the promising application fields are investigated. We conducted subjective evaluation tests on performances and effectiveness of this signed language learning WBT system at various transmission rates, corresponding to those of access circuits available at present. The results show that such a WBT approach will be very promising as a new tool for learners of signed language as well as a new communication network for deaf people.
