Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The characteristics of the face specific event-related brain potential(ERP)were examined. ERPs were recorded from 12 participants, who were presented with pictures/line drawings or word, under three stimulus-presentation conditions. All stimuli in all conditions elicited posterior-temporal N170, the amplitude of which enlarged for the face, eyes, and word stimulus compared to object or animal face. When the earlobe was used as a reference, the amplitude of the vertex P170 enhanced. The scalp distribution showed that the P/N170 is not face specific but it reflects the attention allocation at the early stge of the stimulus processing.
