Abstract(in English) Japanese word processors have a feature that a user have to operates Kana-to-Kanji translation. This translation does not work well when the Kana-sequence inputted has some errors. In this situation, the user are not able to get an appropriate or intended Kanji from the Kana-sequence inputted. Many foreign students in Japan learn Japanese as a second language. They sometimes have difficulties in in inputting correct Kana-sequence for Kana-Kanji translation. This paper shows certain results for an investigation of errors in Kanji-reading for foreign students. The final goal of our study is building certain assistive system for foreign students to learn appropriate correspondence between Kana and Kanji.
