| Abstract(in English) | In the research on automatically generating programs with closed captions by an off-line system for programs that have electronically available manuscripts such as news and information programs, it is necessary to investigate cognitive characteristics of timing difference for closed captions superimposed onto TV news programs. This paper describes subjects' permissible and preferable limits of the timing differences and also the correlation between the limits and the four factors: subject groups, news contents, caption formats and the direction of timing difference. The experimental results show that the hearing impaired could accept a timing difference of about 1 s when watching news programs. |
