Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The present study aimed at reexamination of the difference in Japanese cognition of facial expressions between for Japanese TV dramas and for Western TV dramas. In the experiment, 81 still images selected from five Western movies were exposed randomely to 112 students (83 males, 29 females) who were asked to evaluate the strength of basic facial expressions for each stimulus. As the results, the significant effects of stimuli (facial expressions), the subjects' sex, and these interaction were found. The results of the factor analysis confirmed "the hypothesis of cultural filter" in Maiya & Takigami (1994) that Japanese change their cognitive structure, especially, for sadness, between when they see Japanese and when they see Westemers.
