Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | This study investigated the boundary condition of the mere exposure effect using facial stimuli of emotional expressions. Subjects were exposed to faces of angry, happy, or sad expressions, 1,3, or 6 times and then were asked to rate how much they liked the faces that were re-presented either with the original or neutral expressions. The liking rating was increased as a function of the number of exposures only for happy faces and only when the original expressions were re-presented. The results suggest that the mere exposure effect of a face is superficially bound to the very picture actually presented and that it may not be easily realized for faces of negative affect. |
