Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We analyzed some non-hand gestures while a female sign language interpreter spoken Japanese Sign Language(JSL), which are nodding, blinking, gazing and head movement before. As a result of experiment, they have positive effects on the recognition of JSL words and understanding the structure of JSL sentences. But, we haven't analyzed facial expression enough. Used by a material of a video tape recorded her figure while she interpreted TV news, we measured facial expression and analyzed its meaning and function. Some facial expressions appeared whenever specific word were spoken, and the contexts of topic sometimes made normal words into facial expressions. Facial expressions have the function that makes it easy to understand the meanings of words and contexts. We think it would be easy to introduce facial expressions into sign language animation.
