Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The present paper aims to introduce a computer-assisted visual communication system which was developed both for speech impaired persons and for those who have difficulties in communicating with each other only in the Japanese language. This system employs 424 visual symbols which constitutes PIC-J (Pictogram Ideogram Communication-Japanese Version) and enables us to retrieve, compile, store, and print any of those visual symbols. The significance of using this system in the field of inter-lingual communication is also discussed.
