Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We developed the small VRLA batteries for high rate discharge like a UPS use. The consumption and distribution of sulfuric acid in the electrodes and the separators were analyzed. In results, the quantity of electrolyte contained in each parts of cell components were optimized by increasing a number of electrodes, increasing quantity of electrolyte in positive plate and decreasing quantity of electrolyte in negative plate and separator. A high strength and thin separator was also developed to prevent internal short circuit between the electrodes stacked in a reduced space. This battery has improved energy density by 40%(10min constant watt discharge) compared with the conventional battery. So, it is possible to make current UPS down size and high performance.
