Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) A fuel-cell energy system for telecommunications use is proposed. In this proposal a phosphoric-acid fuel cell (PAFC) cogeneration system is applied in a conventional telecommunications energy system. A multi-fuel-type PAFC power plant was developed to ensure system reliability and reduce the investment cost. To reduce operation costs, a highly efficient system for recovering heat and water from fuel-cell exhaust gases was also developed. A fuel-cell monitoring and diagnosis system was then developed to further ensure system reliability and reduce operation costs. Finally, technologies for interconnecting emergency generators with the PAFC power plant were developed to ensure compatibility with existing equipment and provide a stable energy supply when main power fails. This paper describes the configuration of this fuel-cell energy system for telecommunications use, and the technologies developed.
