Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In This report, we describe a method for extracting an aorta area and a pulmonary artery area in the mediastinum from three dimensional chest X-ray CT images. We have already developed a method for extracting these artery areas by using the region growing method. However, parameters of the method such as a start point of the process were determined manually for each input image. Here we propose a new method for extracting artery area which does not need a manual input. The proposed method employs a medial line model of each artery. We extract the edge area from a given CT image and calculate the minimum distance from edge area by using the Euclidean distance transformation. The medial line model is deformed so as to fit to the transformed image. Artery area is obtained by executing the inverse Euclidean distance transformation for pixels of matched medial lines. We applied the proposed method to four real 3D chest X-ray CT images and confirmed that the method could extract artery area in the mediastinum well.
