Automated detection of mammographic masses with partial loss of regions

Abstract(in English) We have been developing an automatic mass detection algorithm on mammograms. There were the cases of mis detections, in most of which mammographic masses existed in mammary-gland region and their border had partial losses of shapes. The purpose of this study is to detect suchmasses based on sector-shape-mass models. Applying the new method to 2454 digitized mammograms, the detection sensitivity for the partial loss masses improved from 80% to 98% at the number of false-positives changing from 1.0 to 2.4 per image.
