Abstract(in English) | In this paper, we propose a method to calculate the hyper surface curvature from three dimensional(3-D) gray images using the local hyper surface fitting, and reveal its basic characteristics. In this method, we treat a 3-D gray images as a hyper surface in the four dimensional space, and estimate the shape feature of this hyper surface. Using this result, we can calculate the curvature without approximation of partial derivatives as in the previous method. As a result of the comparison between the proposed method and the previous one, it was shown that the proposed method was more robust against noise, and that direction dependency of the calculated curvature is less than the previous method. The curvature obtained by the proposed method was utilized as a criterion of region extansion in the region glowing algorithm employed for. We applied the method of region growing using the hyper surface curvature as the conditions of region extension for extracting lung vessel area from 3-D chest X-ray CT images. We concluded that this method could extract area of lung vessels which were hardly extracted using simple thresholding against a CT value. |
