Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Pre-defined and hard-wired muscle attachments in conventional mesh models are prune to unrealistic facial animation, when applied to a population of human faces with different geometric proportions. In this work we propose a method to extract muscle attachment points of major facial muscles, based on anthropometric landmarks defined for the human face. Face is measured with range scans and anthropometric facial landmarks are extracted from measured range and color texture images by applying edge and region segmentation algorithms. A relationship is then formulated between the extracted landmarks to derive different muscle attachment points.
