Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) In this paper, we propose a new head tracking method which is applicable to conscious human without any rigid head devices. In this method, optical markers are attached to facial skin directly. A 3-D position sensor measures not only the rigid head movement but also facial skin movement caused by expressions. Accuracy of tracking is maintained by rejecting data acquired when a big facial movement is occurred. We performed in vitro experiments to measure its accuracy using target registration error(TRE), and evaluated effects of the threshold parameter for rejection, the number of markers and their configuration. Experimental results showed that tracking accuracy tends to improve when many markers or larger configuration is used. Accuracy of this method was less than 1.0mm for conscious human. The method was shown to attain acceptable accuracy in the use for navigation of Endoscopic Paranasal Sinus Surgery under local anesthesia.
