Abstract(in English) In every winter season, chain traffic accidents often occur on highway in heavy snowfall area, such as in Hokkaido, caused by low driving visibility with heavy snowfall or strong snowstorm. Under such bad weather condition, drivers easily lose sight of sideline or centerline which is undistinguishable from snow covering the road surface. In this report, a highly intelligent traffic communication system and lane-maintaining system is proposed to a solution of the problem. The system supports both lane keeping control and also inter load-vehicle communication that may be invaluable for providing information about traffic jam and accidents or various warning signals. We discuss particularly here about the position sensing method based on estimation of direction of radio wave radiation using a network analyzer imitating an array ntenna. Basic experiments held in a darkroom demonstrate good results.
