Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) When observing an stereoscopic display, we sometimes cannot detect 3-D structure of some objects not to be able to normal depth by binocular disparity. This phenomenon is called cardboard effect. We examined if reduction in card board effect is caused by displaying picture including motion parallax and binocular disparity. The picture of the column in the situation of cardboard effect being noted was displayed on the screen. We set three conditions by varying depth cues in the picture (Motion parallax (head movement)+disparity condition (MH+D), motion parallax (no head movement)+disparity condition (NMH+D), disparity condition (D)). The subject's task was to compare the curvature of the real column with the curvature of the column on the screen. The result showed that the subjective curvature of it in the HM+D condition and the NMH+D condition was larger than in D condition. This indicated that motion parallax caused reduction in cardboard effect.
