Abstract(in English) | The traffic control system operated by Metropolitan Expressway Public Corporation in Tokyo has been consistently upgraded to provide sufficient information to drivers since its first introduction in 1969. As a road network is used all through the hours, a traffic control system requires high reliability. The traffic control system for Metropolitan Expressway introduced online test mode in 1985, then the system has been continuing to provide information to drivers for 16 years with no-stop operation. Furthermore, system management on this system is supported by 24-hour monitoring by operators. The statuses of roadside equipment such as traffic detectors and variable information boards are monitored intensively utilizing the exclusive computer network, and it realizes effective maintenance. Equipment includes WICS beacon as well. It works as a part of ITS information basis. The more ITS progress, the more a traffic control system, which is the source of traffic information, requires high reliability. |
