Abstract(in English) In lightwave circuit using strongly confined waveguide, rejection of higher-order leaky-mode is quite important to obtain ideal characteristics especially in arrayed waveguide gratings. In this paper, propagation loss of the higher order leaky-mode in the InP-based deep ridge waveguide is investigated in simulation and experimentally. The relation between the propagation loss of the higher order mode and crosstalk of AWG is discussed. By optimizing the deep-ridge waveguide parameter, especially core thickness, refractive index of the core, and etching depth under the core, the propagation loss of the higher-order leaky-mode can be drastically changed and effective elimination of higher-order mode enable us to fabricate low crosstalk AWG router.
