Basic Studies on Transmission Characteristics of Double-Step-Index All-Plastic Optical Fibers

Abstract(in English) We developed a simulation model for double-step-index plastic optical fibers(POF)by determining the delay time and the attenuation of modes and the coupling coefficient between modes.Numerically calculated far-field pattern radiated from and transmission bandwidth of a double-step-index POF agreed well with measured ones, confirming the validity of the simulation model. We clarified, through numerical calculations, the dependence of the transmission bandwidth and the loss on physical fiber parameters, giving a guide for designing broadband POFs.
