Abstract(in English) We analyzed the hollow tapered launching couplers by using an optical ray tracing method. We showed the existence of optimum shape with a minimum loss in the hollow tapered launching coupler. The hollow tapered launching couplers have been fabricated. We compared the transmission losses predicted theoretically with those experimental ones and confirmed the validity of the design theory.
