Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The finite element method (FEM) is applied to analyzing transmission characteristics of photonic crystal fibers (PCFs). Using a vector FEM (VFEM) and a scalar FEM (SFEM), the effective index, group velocity dispersion, and mode birefringence of holey fibers (HFs) are investigated. It is confirmed that when accurately modeling HFs with large air holes and predicting sensitive quantities such as dispersion and birefringence, it is crucial to use a full vector model.
