Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Verious high-power laser diodes (LDs) operating at the wavelength of 980 nm have extremely elliptical modal-fields at their endface. For high-efficiency coupling between such LDs and single-mode fibers, we propose a new lensed fiber employing a wedge-shaped graded-index fiber (GIF). We design and fabricate a wedge-shaped GIF for the LD with aspect ratio of 42. Experimental results of the coupling loss and tolerance characteristics are also reported. This time we obtained the minimum coupling loss of 2.7 dB.
