Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) An analytical approach is presented to determine the bit error rate(BER) performance of an optical IM/DD system with wavelength conversion using two SOAs in MZI configuration and optical filtering. It is found that the signal-to-noise ratio(SNR) at the output of the converter critically depends on the differential phase of the converter signal between the two arms of the MZI. Further, there is an optimum value of differential phase shift for which SNR attains a maximum value with minimum BER. At values of SNR other than maximum, the system suffers a penalty in signal power which is found to increase with increase in the phase error and significantly high in the presence of phase noise due to non-zero linewidth of the transmitting and converter lasers. It is noticed that at BER=10^<-9>, the penalty is 1.4 dB and 8 dB for normalized linewidth ΔνT=0.0, 0,005 respectively and is exceedingly high at increased value of ΔνT when the differential phase is 0.70 π.
