Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We present a study of 16×16 optical matrix switch for an optical intermediate distributing frame(IDF)in which the remote exchange of optical wiring is possible. Miniaturization of the switch is attained by adopting a new fiber shifting mechanism using a stepped cam and parallel plates. The prototype matrix switch exhibited excellent properties, such as the average insertion loss of 1.1 dB and the return loss of over 40 dB.
