Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) We propose a novel interferometric-type fiber Bragg grating(FBG)optical switch which works by shifting 2 wavelengths on 50% reflectivity between the main reflection band and a first sideband of the FBG. Periodic sidebands are formed on both sides of the reflection band of a FBG without apodizing. By a numerical analysis we clarify that optical phase difference between reflected and transmitted optical light from a FBG changes discontinuously by π radian at 0 reflectivity points on the edges of each sideband. The new switch can be operated by both opto-optic(optical Kerr)and thermo-optic effect which induce refractive index change of fiber. A four-state switching can be realized using only one FBG by combination of output from the new switch and from reflected/transmitted light from the FBG directly.
