Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Recent submarine telecommunication systems are composed of non-zero dispersion shifted fiber with negative dispersion and dispersion-equalizing fiber with positive dispersion to cancel an accumulated dispersion. Pure silica core fiber has been used as the dispersion-equalizing fiber, because of ultra low attenuation (less than 0.175dB/km at 1.55μm) and high dispersion absolute value. (about 20ps/nm/km at 1.55μm) This is relatively expensive when compared with germanium-doped core and pure silica clad fiber, because it requires more complicated process to contain fluorine into fiber clad. But we succeeded in practical use to offer economical dispersion-equalizing submarine cable unit by using convensional germanium-doped core and pure silica clad fiber.
