Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) It is very important to detect the change or breaking of river embankments by the rainfall at an early stage from the viewpoint of the disaster prevention. We developed an optical fiber sensor to anomalies in river embankments. The sensor is composed of an optical fiber cable and nonwoven sheets. Change or breaking of river embankment is measured as the change of the optical fiber strain in the sensor. This sensor has been tested at the Niyodo River embankment in Kochi. The experiment confirmed that the developed sensor could be a very useful tool for monitoring the change or breaking of river embankments.
