Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) It has been made clear both theoretically and experimentally that the configuration of lensed fiber employing two kinds of GI-fibers(GIFs) with different focusing parameters has high efficiency in coupling between laser diodes(LDs) and single-mode fibers. This structure consists of cascaded GIFs, the front end of the GIF has a hemispherical endface formed by discharge-heating or etching. The fabrication process is quite simple. We confirmed low coupling-loss characteristics, 2dB for standard LDs and 1dB for narrow emitting-angle LDs. We also made clear some other features, such as relatively long working-distances, wide tolerances, and high return losses.
