Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) The external cavity lasers using fiber gratings(FGLs) are expected to be useful as the light source in WDM systems, because of their high selectivity of lasing wavelength. But it is pointed out that the modulation performance of FGLs is not so good because of their long cavity length. In this paper, we proposed the calculation method of the modulation performance of FGLs, by the combination of the rate equations of the semiconductor optical amplifier and the calculation of dynamic reflection response of the gratings. From the calculation under the condition of small signal modulation, we showed FGLs with high relaxation oscillation frequency have wide modulation band width and small chirping. Moreover we revealed the FGL structure which can be directly modulated at 2.5Gbps(NRZ).
