Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) Packaged fiber grating lasers(FGLs) have been fabricated and the potential for use in WDM systems was evaluated. The lasers achieve higher output power than any previously reported and the rate of 2.5 Gbit/s can be realized. We confirmed that the lasing wavelength is stabilized. Especially, the temperature dependence is less than a half of that of typical DFB lasers. According to measurements of chirping spectra, we confirmed that FGL's chirping spectra are remarkably narrow and FM components of the spectra are especially reduced, comparing with that of DFB lasers. FGLs have an attractive advantage in terms of chromatic dispersion. Therefore, the lasers are a suitable light source especially for long haul transmission. We believe that WDM transmitters which are wavelength-specified, wavelength-stabilized, high power, low noise, and low chirping can be realized by the use of FGLs
