Abstract(in Japanese) | (See Japanese page) |
Abstract(in English) | Rayleigh backscatter signal from a single-mode fiber under coherent pulse excitation displays a jagged appearance due to a speckle-like phenomenon caused by the addition of a vast number of scattered waves. This paper proposes a new technique to measure distributed stain in fibers by making use of the jagged Rayleigh backscatter trace. Principle of the measurement and results of computer simulations are presented, showing that the proposed technique can measure very small strain less than 10^<-6>. |
