Abstract(in Japanese) (See Japanese page)
Abstract(in English) It has been reported that IP packet traffic over Ethernet and ATM exhibits self-similar nature and causes the degradation of network performance. Therefore it is crucial for the appropriate buffer design of routers and switches to predict the queueing behavior with self-similar input. In this paper, we consider the variance fitting method under which MMPP is generated so as to match the variance of the self-similar process over specified time-scales. We present how resulting MMPP can predict the variance of the original self-similar process, the tail distribution of queue length for MMPP/D/1 and the loss probability of MMPP/D/1/K.
