Routing Protocol for Mobile Computers in 3D-Space

Abstract(in English) A mobile computer chages its location. Wireless communication media has been getting popular for supporting execution of network applications in the mobility of a computer. There are two types of wireless LAN protocols; communication protocols for infrastructured networks where a mobile computer communicates with other computers through an access point and messages are forwarded by routers, and ones for ad-hoc networks where there is no fixed computer and mobile computers have function for forwarding a received message according to a routing table. Wireless LAN protocols such as IEEE802.11 and Bluetooth have been standerdized. In IEEE802.11, signal is transmitted with 10mW power and the signal transmission range is about 100m. Here, it is reasonable that a routing protocol works on 2D space since the difference of the height between any two mobile computers is much less than the transmission range. On the other hand, bluetooth is designed for supporting mobile computers with less battery capacity and signal transmission range is only 10m with 1mW transmission power. Such a smaller signal transmission range is called a microcell. In a microcell-based network, a routing protocol has to work on 3D space. In this paper, the authors mentions a breaf idea for designing such routing protocols.
