Performance Improvement Offered by Trellis-Coded Space-Time Transmission over Nakagami Fading Channel

Abstract(in English) In this paper, multiple signals are transmitted on the same carrier frequency, at the same time but using multiple antennas. At the receiver, these signals are received overlapped and need to be separated by the signal processing unit. The receiver employs maximum likelihood sequence estimation extended to multi-signal detection. With such receivers, it is shown that by introducing trellis-coded modulation known as trellis-coded co-channel interference cancaller (TCC) technique, the system performance can be improved over both Nakagami fading channel and quasi-static channel where the performance of spare-time transmission systems is severly degraded. The degradation in performance is compensated by the assignment of a combination of trellis-coded modulations to transmit signals. By combining uniquely decodable codes on condition of two signal separation, it is revealed by computer simulations that the receiver can have excellent performance under high E_b/N_0 on condition of existing four signals with equal amplitude with one receive antenna over quasi-static channels. And the bit error rate performance of trellis-coded space-time transmission over Nakagami fading channels is given assuming four transmit antennas and three correlated receive antennas.
