Abstract(in English) Information technologies in the medical field have spread for the purpose of medical cost cutbacks and progress of medical techniques. The availability of broadband networks at a moderate price makes it possible to provide high quality tele-medicine systems handling a large quantity of medical images. In line with this, we propose a network-based lung cancer screening system. It has an easy-to-use interface, a reading function which enables present images to be compared with past images, a highly secure network distribution function and tele-image reading with tele-collaboration. We are now evaluating the system by applying it to a field test over the Japanese Gigabit Network (JGN).
