| Abstract(in English) | We have been studying the integrated multimedia services to a regional area, which includes delivery of health care, welfare and educational information using video conference systems and high speed networks. We are developing the service systems by the resident's initiatives, which have high level service availability irrespective of their living locations. The research centers of the universities located in the metropolitan area of Tokyo are connected to the laboratories in the rural areas in Saitama through ATM network (JGN), and also the laboratories are connected to the neighboring public facilities as well as to the sites of a distant village in the district with wireless LAN and high speed digital leased line. We are also experimenting on the delivery of MPEG-4 contents in such applications as video conference and streaming services using high speed optical wireless ATM network. |
